THE STABLE:

It was noisy in the stable with the animals feeding, donkeys braying, the cows mooing, chickens clucking and sheep baaing. Joseph was quietly making a bed for Mary and placing fresh hay in the manger for the baby. Everything was ready for Jesus to be born. Mary had brought along strips of soft cloth to wrap around her baby to keep him warm.

AWAY IN A MANGER

The Shepherds and the Sheep:

 Just A Little

by Judith Jolly

Just a little star

Became a brilliant light

Shining on shepherd boys

On a chilly winter’s night.

Just a little breeze

On that hillside far away

Sounds of angels singing

Called to shepherds on that day.

Just a little lamb

Grazing on the hill

Went to see the Christ child

In a manger. Oh, so still!

Just a little child

In a manger filled with hay

Showing God’s love

On that first Christmas day.

Wise Men:

Carol of the Wise Men

The star we’ve waited for so long

To tell us of his coming,

Is here! Is here! And we must go

With trumpets and drums drumming!

The star we follow on this night

Will lead us to the cradle

Where he was born this holy night

In a poor and lowly stable.

The way is long, the way is cold,

We cannot tarry longer;

The birth of him the star has told

The way is still much longer.

A king is born this holy morn

And gifts to him we’re bringing.

The child we’ve waited for is born!

Oh hear the angels singing.

Angels:

Suddenly, the sky was as light as noon. Standing before the shepherds was an angel, “Don’t be afraid,” the angel said, “I bring you good news. The Savior is born in Bethlehem today!” The sky was full of angels praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace among those he favors.”

Quickly the shepherds ran to Bethlehem and found Mary, Jesus and Joseph. They worshiped Jesus. Then rushed out into the streets to tell everyone what they had heard and saw that night.
